COVER COVER COVER

You can click on it to make it bigger. Also the tagline is obviously a placeholder. My editor is funny.

And here's some bullshit blurb that I wrote to give you some idea of what it's about:

Craig, for the first time in nearly a year, wakes up in Silver Spring, Maryland on October 2nd, 2002 to a house devoid of chirping, barking, and mewing. Between twilight and daylight, somehow his entire menagerie escaped. All the animals that he'd collected since his old boyfriend was dragged away to the psych ward. Gone.

Lio, the post-cancer kid transfer student from New York City, doesn't like to talk. But he does like Craig. His new therapist says he's "a little fucked up." Craig just says, if he has the time, could he help him put up posters?

At 5:20 PM, when their stack of posters is about halfway out and Lio surprises Craig with a kiss, the sniper shootings begin.

Ten people died in the D.C. sniper shootings. This is the story of two of the boys who didn't.

I love it. But I still have absolutely no idea what the story is from that blurb. I'll be excited when the tagline is more permanent. Although it's quite amusing.

THANK GOD! Nice photography, nice design. Marvelous cover. Thank the fucking gods of design. I envy the YA genre for their covers. Truly.

I don't feel too bad dissing covers I don't like since, as we're told so often in #QueryChat or #AskAgent sessions, author has about 0 say on covers.

90% of SF/F and romance covers are horrible times 100. I'm seriously sick to death of seeing bare chested guys with their pack of six abs lighted à la butterfly (think Twilight) with the shot stopping at the neck, sexy ladies in leather with edge weapons or some Hollywood looking hunk/chick TRYING to look badass (the key word here is trying). Burn them. Burn them all.

A cover should make you wonder, make you curious. Not look away in disgust. You've either had a lot of luck or the gods of design are on your side, H, because so far, all three of your covers were either original or tastefully simple.

Like it. Plenty!

Awesome cover. Reminds me of "Hoosiers."

And this was your project originally named after the song "The Day the Animals Were Gone," right? Now I understand why.

CharmedLassie said...

It's excellent. No question.

IT'S AWESOME!!! Congrats! I want to pick those sneakers up and wear them. :D :D

Not as foreboding as yours, but then, they didn't have snipers in Indiana.

How did I not know what this book was about? I think I jumped on your bandwagon too late, but I'm happy I'm here now. This story sounds awesome and that tagline, it rivals all taglines.a

Oh, the cover's pretty bomb too.

I LOVE THE COVER.

hannah moskowitz said...

maine character--it used to be called THE ANIMALS WERE GONE, which is a song by Damien Rice. I still stuck the phrase in the book.

Annerb--yeah, that's just a thing I threw together a while ago. It's essentially a m/m romance set over the D.C. sniper shootings in 2002.

Thank you so much, everybody. I'm so glad I could share it today. I've been bursting to show it off since I got it!

MEGA COVER LOVE!!!

Me wants it. Like, now.

Very nice!

I lived in Fairfax County, VA during the sniper shootings and made my husband gas up the car those weeks Malvo was out there. It was weird/scary to see people bob around while gassing up, figuring they'd be safer that way.

Very nice Hannah!

You must be thrilled.

Heather Howland said...

Caroline--that very thing comes up in the book. I was in Silver Spring, MD and it was...well, I guess you can say it was a time that stuck in my mind, ha.

Rebecca Christiansen said...

I literally gasped when the page loaded. Hannah, it's gorgeous!!!! I seriously can't stop staring at it. If I saw this cover in a book store I would sooo snatch it up and run to the cashier.

Dude, I LOVE this cover. I freakin' adore it! It's so simple, but you get so much out of it. And the title and the cover fit perfectly!

Definitely my favorite out of all your covers thus far.

And the blurb sounds awesome!

Lydia Sharp said...

Something about me you probably don't wanna know, but it's relevant: I have a foot fetish when it comes to book covers (just on book covers, not in real life, feet are gross). Pretty much all of my most favorite of my favorites include either feet or shoes or both. Which is why I am so undeniably in LOVE with this cover.

There. Now you know.

Also, you rock at writing blurbs. And books.
